A moment of sense
During this visit, mom was sleeping on the couch and I touched her arm to wake her. I introduced myself, as I always do, and she was happy to see me. She asked If I knew who she was, I said yes, you are my Mom, Mary DeNorcy or sometimes we call you Betty. She laughed and said that was good, she didn''t want me to forget her. An ah-ha moment I would like to think.
However, I do remember a time before she was in a care facility that I went down on a Saturday to get her meds set up for the following week; go through the refrigerator and throw out any bad food, make a grocery list, take her shopping and do a little cleaning in the kitchen. She used to keep an immaculate house, and we noticed a huge change in her abilities to do that since the dementia got the best of her. I spent the entire day with her and she helped me do whatever task I gave her. The following day she went to see Trish and told her that the cleaning lady that was at her house yesterday took all her money out of her wallet. I thought that was funny and sad, but in her mind honest. What a crazy disease!!!
